Why WOMAD Matters
WOMAD (World of Music Arts & Dance) is important to New Plymouth for just one reason. If you want to understand everything about football (and I know you don’t) then you should read a book called Soccernomics. Aside from describing the in’s and out’s...
Predictions for 2015
Things that will happen this year. I think I may be psychic. I just seem to be able to know whats going to happen. For example, when I walk my dog and we go past the house with the immaculate lawn, I just know that Rover is going to wander nonchalantly into th...
Queueing – the silent killer
If I were an airline owner I would give the catering contract to McDonald’s. I really hate standing in queues. Whether its for tickets to Lady blah blah, waiting for a big red bus, or ordering a quinoa burger, queuing is as annoying as a Piranha in your bath...
Design and marriage
Good design should be like marriage Last Saturday in a sun-soaked Pukekura Park, the fabulous and adorable Lynne Alexander and I married. As the summer breeze made me feel fine blowing through the jasmine in my mind, I felt blessed and as contented as a fastin...
CONTACT US
WELCOME
This is the part of our website where we explain and describe more about us – a place where we let our hair down and show you who we really are. In doing so we hope that we can offer you more than you first thought.
ZESTY NEW IDENTITY
bluemarble is the new identity of Richard Bain Landscape Architects, an already established and successful landscape architecture firm based in New Plymouth, New Zealand (we added the NZ bit so potential international clients know where we are – too optimistic?).
WE LIKE OUR NEW NAME
Because it reminds us of a crisp fresh planet earth.
DON’T BE FOOLED
As a boutique design company, neatly tucked away in a provincial corner of New Zealand, our location belies our skill, attitude and reputation. We are a talented group of designers who want to conquer the world from the comfort, tranquility and overall niceness of Taranaki.
A BIT MORE ABOUT US…
we feel embarrassed writing about ourselves so we got one of our clients to write this bit…
Richard A. Bain
Producer
Lead Actor
Richard
Richard maintains an enthusiasm for design and landscape that makes him not only popular at dinner parties but an outstanding leader of any design project.
He now carries such labels as ‘experienced’ which means he knows what he’s doing.
So how come he can’t sleep at night?

Lead Actress
Melanie
Melanie is so nice that her clients want to cuddle her and give her lunch.
Furthermore, as a landscape architect, she can whip up a design for any and every occasion.
She particularly loves residential design. However, Melanie, despite her style and grace, doesn’t sleep that well at night either!

Make Up
Lynne
Lynne possesses superb taste and judgement in all aspects of her creative life and is the living embodiment of a lucky dip; you will be surprised.
However, Lynne is sometimes late to work as she doesn’t sleep well at night
WE WANT THE WORLD TO BE A BETTER PLACE
A place for casual laughter and friendly talk, a place for people to walk.
As a company we have trouble sleeping.
We fret, we worry, we toss and we turn.
We lie awake and stare at the ceiling and think…
What can we do to make our cities greener, our rivers cleaner, our wildlife safer? Why is there such a gap between rich and poor? Who are our towns and cities for? How can we make our environment better?
Solving these questions is why we come to work every day (we don’t come in on weekends but that’s because we need to get outside). These are the issues that motivate us –
WHAT CAN WE OFFER YOU?
We can offer you design cliches such as ‘integrated solutions innovation’, ‘inherent elemental power co-memorized with visceral connections, culturally interpretative phenomena’ and maybe even, ‘collaborative resonant sustainable revealment’. However, we know you can see beyond jargon.
As an experienced design company, it goes without saying that we operate using best practice methods of client liaison, design process and management so why bore you to tears?
We imagine that you are more interested in what we can specifically offer you? We are not naive – we know that we are not the only company that offers landscape architecture and urban design expertise. So what do we offer that others don’t? Here goes……..
HOW DO WE COMPETE WITH BIGGER COMPANIES?
We are passionate about what we do! We really are! We really do care about your project. Work is personal for us. We are nimble – we can attend to you at the drop of a hat.
Yes we are busy but you come first!
We like you, we like your project, (we don’t take on projects if we don’t like them)…
To become involved in BIG jobs we team up with other companies (they seem to like working with us for some reason – we think it’s the costumes)!
Finally… thank you for reading about bluemarble. We would love to hear from you so please write to us. If you would like to involve us in your project then even better!
SEE YOU SOON
We love travel, so don’t hesitate to invite us to your place.
